Our Curriculum

Our curriculum inspires children to explore the world around them in exciting ways, developing essential skills for future success.

STREAM Blocks

At Building Blocks, we believe in fostering a love of learning through play.
This subject focuses on the way children learn and share who they are in the world, their interest, and how and what they like to play with. Students will examine our world through an introduction to learning about the human bodies, the environment, seasons, weather, the Earth, planets, geography, geology, plants and animals. This subject extends to understanding about our families, school and community, the larger world around us, holidays, and historical figures.
Students understand technology as a tool for learning and documentation.
This subject focuses on the basics of a child’s development of personal and interpersonal communication skills; learning actively to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world. Reading involves the introduction of storybook reading and storytelling through read aloud, poems, rhymes, and phonics. Phonics is essential for beginning to read and write, as students will learn to recognize and articulate sounds of letters and words, and the ability to write them. Literature is often used to introduce themes that will be integrated in all of the STREAM Blocks.
Students investigate, innovate, build and use natural and man-made materials to explore age-appropriate science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.
Art: Students will be introduced to art tools and creative works that will help them acquire a relationship to art, and develop critical thinking skills.

Music: Students will be exposed to live and recorded music, sing common children’s songs, and hear different genres and styles of music around the globe They will learn about tempo, rhythm, beat, repetition, sequencing, musical note reading, and about different instruments and their sounds.

STREAM Blocks

At BASIS Beginners, our lessons are focused around several key subject areas.
Playful exploration lets students discover the environment, seasons, weather, the Earth, planets, geography, geology, plants, animals, and more. This subject extends to understanding our communities, families, and history.
Our students learn to understand technology as a tool for learning and documentation. We incorporate technology in a way that fosters problem-solving, creativity, and early digital literacy.
Students explore stories, sounds, and writing as they hone their communication skills. Our phonics-based approach teaches students how to recognize and articulate the sounds of letters and words. Through children’s books, poems, and rhymes, we develop a love of storytelling.
Age-appropriate engineering activities allow students to investigate, innovate, and build. Using natural and man-made materials, students learn how to think critically as they solve simple engineering problems.

Art: With hands-on art projects, students get creative and develop fine motor skills. Activities such as painting and crafts encourage artistic expression, imagination, and self-confidence.

Music: Students are exposed to live and recorded music, sing children’s songs, and hear different genres and styles of music from around the globe. They will learn about tempo, rhythm, beat, repetition, and the sounds made by different instruments.

Drama: Students develop foundational skills in performance, singing, and dancing while working on their gross motor skills. During our drama lessons, we emphasize the importance of teamwork and physical activity.

Our students are introduced to basic math skills such as recognizing and writing numbers, recognizing shapes, and sorting. Additionally, students explore real-world problems involving graphing, quantity and counting, money, and measurement.

Playing is Learning

Play-based activities teach children skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and social-emotional intelligence.

Enrichment

We reinforce concepts with field trips, on-campus visits from professionals, and engaging STREAM stations set up around the classroom.

Nap/Quiet Time

Students from ages 3–5 collaborate and share their discoveries with one another, practicing social and communication skills.
